A team of vehicle maintenance personnel from Via Metropolitan Transit took top honors in a competition between transit agencies from across the United States and Canada.
On May 6, the team of Carlos Fuentes, Don Smasal, and Victor Hernandez competed in the International Bus Roadeo in Kansas City, Mo., to diagnose and repair planted problems on transit buses. The Roadeo was held as part of the American Public Transportation Association’s annual Bus and Paratransit Conference.
Fuentes, Smasal, and Hernandez were challenged to identify various problems in electrical, air brake, and air-conditioning systems as well as total bus operating systems, and through their efforts they were able to claim first place in the competition. This marks the third time in four years that a VIA maintenance team has placed first in the International Bus Roadeo.
