STM presented its Sustainable Development Report 2013 Aug. 19.
This sixth report details the transit corporation’s main achievements in the past year in terms of sustainability. Its structure differs from previous editions as it builds on the priorities outlined in the STM’s Sustainable Development Plan 2020 adopted in 2013.
A few of the report’s highlights:
The number of kilometres on which bus preferential measures (reserved lanes, priority traffic signals, etc.) were deployed was increased by 10 percent
STM now includes sustainability criteria in over half of all contracts (in terms of monetary value)
STM carries out more than 97 percent of its expenditures in Québec
STM has elected to make the new Stinson bus garage a model project in terms of sustainable development by aiming for LEED Gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council
The frequency of work-related accidents is 14 percent lower
STM transit fares are some of the lowest among major Canadian cities
