SunLine Transit Agency was honored with the Transit Innovation Award at the 49th Annual California Transit Association Conference and Expo. The Transit Innovation Award was added this year by the California Transit Association to recognize outstanding innovation, a program or service that has demonstrated innovative concepts, effective problem-solving techniques or promotes a positive image of transit in the community that benefits public transit in general.
Lauren Skiver, SunLine CEO/general manager stated, "SunLine's talented staff and innovative board of directors are key factors in winning this distinguished honor. The agency has pioneered alternative and emerging fuel technologies for more than 20 years and many of those technologies have produced production solutions widely used in transit, trucking and by manufacturers of private auto vehicles. We appreciate the nod by the transit industry of our accomplishments and we are working hard to continue to improve the transit services we provide to residents and visitors in the Coachella Valley."
The agency’s commitment as a leader in alternative fuel technologies, focusing on zero emission hydrogen fuel cell buses and infrastructure, has garnered SunLine with numerous awards and national recognition. The agency recently added to its fleet, two additional hydrogen fuel cell buses. As the agency looks to the future, the focus is on becoming a Center for Excellence for fuel cell buses. SunLine looks to be a resource for the transit industry to assist in converting to hydrogen vehicles. SunLine, a small transit agency, continues to leave a big footprint in the alternative fueled vehicles arena.
