Modern Transit Partnership Joins Temple University Harrisburg
The Modern Transit Partnership (MTP) has found a new home at Temple University Harrisburg. Part of a new management agreement with Temple University, the MTP will continue to advocate for and educate south central Pennsylvania on the benefits of and the need for a comprehensive multi-modal transportation system – from public transit, ride sharing and regional rail, to bicycling, walking and personal vehicles. The MTP will be located in Temple Harrisburg’s Strawberry Square offices at 4th and Walnut Streets.
“We’re looking forward to our new partnership with Temple, and hope to expand our programs with their assistance,” said Brad Jones, chair of the Modern Transit Partnership. “Residents throughout south central Pennsylvania area feeling the pain of traffic congestion on our region’s roads. In addition to travel delays, commuters are paying more and burning larger amounts of gas as they cope with stop-and-go traffic. A true multi-modal transportation system promises a solution to help alleviate traffic congestion that will continue to increase as our area continues to grow.”
MTP Executive Director Julie Shade will continue in her current role, in addition to becoming outreach program manager at Temple University Harrisburg. “Having been with the MTP since its inception, I am eager to continue pursuing transportation solutions for our region,” she said. “Higher education is a new field for me and I am thrilled to become an integral part of Temple Harrisburg’s growth and expansion in the mid-state.”
“This new partnership, combined with Temple’s research expertise, will help the University and the MTP take a leading role in transportation concerns in Pennsylvania,” said Link Martin, director of Temple University Harrisburg. “This is a new collaborative initiative for Temple. We are excited to bring transportation issues to our stable of projects at Temple. We’re pleased to have Julie Shade join us in her role as outreach program manager. Her talents in marketing and event and conference planning will help Temple Harrisburg develop important outreach programs for our community and throughout the region.”
