Capital Region Encouraged to Dump the Pump
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has joined nearly 160 public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the 10th Annual Dump the Pump Day on June 18.
Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), in partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), this national public transportation awareness day encourages people to “dump the pump” by parking their car and riding public transit instead.
CDTA is urging people to show us how they are “dumping the pump” through our social media channels for a chance to win free bus passes. On June 18, the public is encouraged to post a photo and caption to the CDTA Facebook page or Tweet a photo to with the hashtag #dumpthepump for a chance to win. Three winners will be drawn at random.
Riding CDTA is an economical way to save, and according to APTA’s most recent Transit Savings Report households can save, on the average, nearly $10,000 a year when they “dump the pump.” The first National Dump the Pump Day was started in June 2005 to combat rising gas prices, rallying public transit systems across the country to participate in Dump the Pump Day.
