Dec. 3, 2015

The public transportation industry applauds the congressional conference committee for reaching a bipartisan agreement on a five-year, fully-funded surface transportation authorization bill.

“Titled Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, this legislation increases investment in all federal public transportation programs and addresses the critical issues of our industry,” said American Public Transportation (APTA) Chair Valarie J. McCall and board member of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA). “On behalf of the 1,500 APTA member organizations, I congratulate Congress for moving forward and providing increased investment in public transportation systems in small, medium, and large communities."

“As the first long-term surface transportation bill in ten years, the significance of this legislation cannot be overstated,” said APTA President and CEO Michael Melaniphy. “A well-funded, long-term surface transportation authorization is critical to the economic competitiveness and prosperity of our nation’s communities.”
