Michael Meyer, a senior advisor in the Atlanta office of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has been named a member of the European-U.S. Transportation Research Symposium on Resilience and Adaptation.
Sponsored by the Transportation Research Board Executive Committee and the National Research Council, the symposium assembles international experts from government, industry and academia to exchange information on the emerging topic of transportation resilience and adaptation. It is expected to promote efficiencies and synergy within the international transportation research community, while accelerating transport-sector innovation in Europe and the United States.
As a senior advisor at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Meyer will work with other international experts on climate change and system resiliency to determine areas of commonality between the European and the North American experience.
Meyer was a professor of civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Georgia Institute of Technology, serving as chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 1994 to 2000. From 1983 to 1988, he was director of planning and development for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at the Transportation Management Institute at the University of Denver. He has written more than 200 papers/articles on transportation topics, including 28 books or book chapters. He is the principal author of a college textbook on transportation planning--Transportation Planning: A Decision Oriented Approach. He has written extensively on climate change and transportation system resiliency, including serving as principal author on the National Cooperative Highway Research Program 750 report on climate change, extreme weather events and the highway system.
