Area residents have expressed the need for expanded Twilight bus service on the north side of Holland, more specifically the 136th Street area. In response to passenger’s request, MAX Transit will launch their new route 10 “Twilight North” on March 7. The new evening fixed route will operate from 7-10pm Monday through Saturday.
“Evening bus service consistently ranks as the most requested improvement by passengers on our annual surveys. The addition of this service will contribute directly to employment and economic development in our community.” said Linda LeFebre, executive director of the MAX Authority.
Since 2008, MAX has operated an evening “Night Owl” demand response service using one bus. Recognizing the need for additional evening service, in 2012 the Twilight route 9 was introduced. This March, residents will have additional nighttime travel options, with 33 bus stops along Twilight route 9 and 30 stops along Twilight North route 10.
The new Twilight North bus will leave the Padnos Transportation Center at :00 each hour, and then return to the transfer center again at :52. The new route will keep service access to existing route 9 bus stops, and will offer bus-to-bus transferring at the Padnos Center. A slight modification to route 9 will concentrate service to the SouthShore/Downtown/Holland Heights area. Portions of the routes are served twice per hour, Walmart in particular, and follow a “back-and-forth route structure, allowing two travel times by crossing a street or going a block over.
Standard one way fares of $1 for adults and 50 cents for children age 5-17 will apply. Seniors 65 years and older, and ADA and Medicare cardholders will ride for free as they do now on all the regular fixed routes.
