On March 18, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) and Mayor Andrew Ginther welcomed more than 75 elected officials, business and community leaders to a celebration honoring 1,000,000 trips on the CBUS.
The celebration began with a ceremonial ride on the CBUS from Broad and High Streets, to the event at the COTA Transit Terminal at 25 E. Rich St. Event speakers included: W. Curtis Stitt, COTA president and CEO; Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther; Jean Carter Ryan, vice chair of the COTA Board of Trustees; and Jim Kunk, vice chair of the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority. Columbus City Council member Shannon Hardin engaged the audience in a round of CBUS trivia and awarded three lucky community members the title of 2016 CBUS Ambassadors.
COTA staff members hopped on the CBUS throughout the week to thank customers for riding the CBUS and give away t-shirts celebrating 1,000,000 riders.
Since the CBUS began rolling on May 5, 2014, this popular service has become a vital part of the Downtown experience. The CBUS is free to ride and connects residents, visitors and employees to shopping, dining, entertainment, hotels and meeting sites throughout Downtown, the Short North, the Arena District and the Brewery District.
