April is a busy month for StarTran, starting with Nebraska Transit Week April 11 through 15. StarTran will feature special promotions each day of the week:
- Monday, April 11 is "Buddy Day," and two can ride for the price of one (includes Handi-Van). Riders can pay cash or use their passes.
- Tuesday, April 12 is "Bike and Bus Day," and riders with bicycles can ride for free.
- Wednesday, April 13 is "Senior Day," and those age 62 and older can ride for free if they have a photo ID with a birth date (includes Handi-Van).
- Thursday, April 14 is "Patron Appreciation Day."

In addition to its regular route service, StarTran will provide Big Red Express shuttle service for the Nebraska spring football game April 16. Buses will pick up and drop off on the south side of SouthPointe Pavilions, 27th and Pine Lake, and at North Star High School, 5801 N. 33rd St. Big Red Express service begins two hours before kick-off, and the last buses leave the lots about 45 minutes before kickoff. The stadium drop-off and pick-up location is on "R" Street between 12th and 14th streets. Buses return to the lots immediately after the game. Cost is $5 each way or $10 round-trip, and passengers need exact change.
The public can help "Stuff the Bus" April 16 and 17 by donating new items needed by the residents at Friendship Home, a 24-hour emergency shelter for those experiencing domestic violence. StarTran buses and Friendship Home volunteers will be stationed at these locations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day:
- Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores - 27th and Superior, 87th and Highway 2
- Wal-Mart stores - 84th and Adams, 27th and Grainger
Items needed include toilet paper, paper towels, sheets and comforters, pillows, bath towels, personal care items, kitchenware, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and some non-perishable food items.
