The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has unveiled a new transit center that is now open to the public.
The new Largo Transit Center, which opened on May 1, is located in the heart of Pinellas County, at the corner of U.S. Highway 19 and Roosevelt Boulevard, and is served by some of the agency’s highest ridership routes—Route 19, 52, and 79.
“This new Largo Transit Center represents PSTA’s unwavering commitment to improving public transit for our community and our citizens,” said Brad Miller, PSTA chief executive officer.
Before the transit center opened, riders would have to walk along busy roads to get to nearby destinations, including one of the most popular destinations on the route—Walmart. Now, riders have the convenience of getting dropped off adjacent to the building, eliminating the discomfort of unpredictable weather and carrying heavy loads of groceries for long distances.
“Our customers and many of our associates have been waiting for this day to come,” said Sheila Perez, Walmart store manager. “This new transit center is not only going to have a positive impact for my associates here at Walmart, but is also going to be very beneficial for the citizens of Largo, as well as the High Point Community.”
The new transit center also features PSTA’s new bus shelter design. The updated bus shelters sport a sleek and modern design while still being functional and practical with plenty of seating, shade, and trash receptacles.
“We expect very strong use of this great transit center,” Miller said. “It is a substantial improvement for our customers and is just another way that we provide value to our community.”
