Dump-The-Pump Day is set for June 16th. This is a national campaign sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association and is designed to raise awareness of the benefits of using public transportation; especially the economic benefits.
Public transportation use reduces the nation’s dependence on foreign oil by 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline a year, and it also saves 37 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
Public transportation has a proven track record of reducing congestion on roads and in parking lots. In addition, public transportation provides mobility and freedom for people from every walk of life; freedom to commute to work, go to school, visit friends or obtain medical care.
Ozark Regional Transit (ORT), as part of its commitment to give back to the communities in which it serves and to bring awareness to the benefits of public transportation, will be offering a free-fare week beginning Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17. All passengers can ride any fixed-route buses to any one of their destinations for free.
The Jones Center, The Shiloh Museum, all three malls—including their respective entertainment, shopping and eating establishments, and movie theaters—nine public libraries and three aquatic centers, as well as multiple parks, bike trailheads and music venues, are all available using current ORT routes.
