As a result of a year-long Comprehensive Operational Analysis of bus services, the Connect Transit Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a complete transit system update that will become effective on August 15, 2016. In the weeks leading up to the system-wide restructure, Connect Transit staff will be working on various projects to educate the citizens of Bloomington-Normal on the new system.
“This is an exciting time for Connect Transit customers, Connect Transit employees, and the entire Bloomington-Normal community. Our entire team is hard at work to make sure that we provide the education, outreach, and resources that will enable the community to embrace this change together and enjoy using our improved public transportation system to connect in new ways” said Andrew Johnson, general manager of Connect Transit.
In an effort to increase awareness, Connect Transit will be leading multiple public education sessions beginning in late June as well as offering new system previews in late July and early August. Redesigned routes will include some new bus stops, so new bus stop and route signs will be installed throughout Bloomington-Normal during the month of July that will be labeled with instructional signs noting them as new stops and their effective date. Connect Transit will have new maps and rider guides available for the public by mid-July along with a new mobile bus tracking application for smartphone users this fall. The new application will allow users to more accurately track bus locations around the Bloomington-Normal community in real-time as well as trip plan on the go.
