GRTC Shatters Ridership Record on Kings Dominion Express
The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) set another new ridership record for its Summer 2016 express service to Kings Dominion.
Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend, initial data reports about 50,000 riders chose the Kings Dominion Express to connect from Richmond to the theme park, whether for employment or leisure. This is a 15% increase over last year’s Summer service.
GRTC’s CEO David Green said, “The Kings Dominion Express is our best performing express service GRTC offers. We think this success is in part to GRTC adding a second bus into service.”
This continues the rapid increase in demand from riders in recent years. The first year of the GRTC and Kings Dominion service partnership was in the Summer of 2011, when nearly 5,500 people rode. By 2014, about 23,000 riders used the service, and last year in 2015 a record 42,000 riders were on the 102x.
“Kings Dominion is pleased to continue the partnership with GRTC this season and to have supported its growth over the years,” said Katelyn Sherwood, PR and communications manager for Kings Dominion.
GRTC operated daily service from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Saturday and Sunday Kings Dominion Express service continues through October 30 for “Halloween Haunt.”
