Leeds City Center Commuters Enjoy Luxury Bus Upgrade

Dec. 15, 2016
The popular First West Yorkshire X84 bus service, which travels between Skipton and Leeds City Center, has been transformed to offer commuters higher quality vehicles on most journeys, for a more comfortable and relaxing experience.

Customers travelling on board the new X84 can now enjoy the latest in luxury quality seating, and access to free on-board Wi-Fi.

The new buses feature the latest ‘stop start’ technology and green ‘Euro 6’ engines, which reduces fuel use, and will contribute to improved air quality. This is particularly significant along the A660 in Headingley, which is an area monitored by Leeds City Council to support the ambition for cleaner air in Leeds.

Speaking about the introduction of the premium vehicles for the X84 service, Paul Turner, Head of Commercial at First West Yorkshire, said: “We’re pleased to bring new luxury vehicles to the X84 service for our customers, which are instantly recognizable due to their new blue and gold colour scheme. We hope customers will enjoy these premium buses on their commute into Leeds and on leisure journeys around Wharfedale.”

Commenting about the new X84 vehicles from First West Yorkshire, Councillor Ian Jackson, said: “This is great news for Otley and the surrounding areas, as not only are the new buses helping to connect residents to Leeds City Center, but they’re also helping to attract visitors to the town. I’d encourage anyone that has not yet been on board the new X84 buses to try them out, as I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed!”

The news completes the investment of over £10 million spent this year, across West Yorkshire, which includes the new buses introduced on the Leeds Bradford corridor and the Fearnville 42 service.

The X84 operates from Skipton to Leeds via Ilkley and Otley, with one bus every 20 minutes from Otley to Leeds, throughout most of the day. Weekly tickets cost £15 in the Leeds District and £20 for West Yorkshire.
