Capital Area Transit (CAT) will work with a group of Carlisle citizens who are organizing community volunteers to provide free ‘circulator service’ in Carlisle Borough, CAT Spokesperson Robert Philbin announced.
CAT pilot circulator service in the borough will end April 28.
“We’ve been approached by a group of citizens who are pursuing the possibility of free service in the borough,” Philbin said. “We’re happy to provide data and any assistance we can to support their efforts.”
The Carlisle Borough Free Transportation Committee is led by residents Stephen Hughes, Sherwood McGinnis and Dr. Jill Sunday Bartoli. CAT will provide public information, data, planning and training assistance as the group organizes. Philbin said the circulator attracted the highest ridership when free rides were provided.
“Many residents in the borough are at or below poverty levels and at least 100 homeless people, including women and children, are reportedly in need of transit and shelter services on a daily basis,” he said. “We’re happy to assist this public service project in the borough were we can.”
