Canberra, which is located in the Australian Capital Territory, is well-known across the world as the “Garden of Oceania.” However, with its ever-increasing population and traffic congestion, environmental pollution has become a concern for the residents of this urban oasis.
“Approximately 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the ACT come from vehicles. Electric vehicles will undoubtedly be the most effective solution for curbing environmental pollution,” said Meegan Fitzharris, ACT transport and city services minister.
The BYD K9 electric bus is powered with BYD’s self-developed lithium iron phosphate battery, featuring the longest driving range of 250 km on a single charge under normal urban road conditions.
BYD delivered its first batch of pure electric buses to Sydney Airport, which put them into operation last August. The airport ground transportation provider added another 40 electric buses this past January, setting a new record in Australia for electric bus operation. In June 2017, Brisbane selected BYD as a supplier of electric buses as a shuttle service between the airport’s domestic and international terminals.
