rabbittransit Establishes New Nonprofit Arm to Community Transportation
rabbittransit has announced the creation of a nonprofit partner organization, 3P Ride, Inc., which focuses on expanding transportation options for seniors, persons with disabilities, veterans, vulnerable families and the infrastructure that supports them.
3P Ride will work primarily to identify resources for projects and initiatives that are not typically funded by traditional transportation dollars in support of its focus of “More People, More Places, More Possibilities.”
Originally built upon a yearlong inclusive partnership initiative led by rabbittransit, 3P Ride was funded through a competitive grant from the Community Transportation Center of America. Comprised of more than 30 partners, the initiative focused on inclusion of older adults and people with disabilities into the planning process and implementation of mobility expansions and improvements.
The first official board meeting was held last month. The Board of Directors includes three members of the original 3P Ride partnership and four current board members for Central Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which does business as rabbittransit. Officers include Chair Raymond Rosen, Vice Chair Darlene Brown, Secretary Thomas Wilson and Treasurer Keith Martin. Board members from the community include Cathy Bollinger of the York County Community Foundation’s Embracing Aging Initiative, Shane Moore of Family First Health and Roberta Simmons, President of the York Area Council of the Blind.
“Early efforts of the initiative have yielded some great returns,” commented rabbittransit Executive Director, Richard Farr. “We have partnered with many organizations to hold education sessions, identified funding for transportation to same-day medical appointments, created a Veterans transportation program and we’ve begun recruiting volunteers to serve as travel trainers for new riders.”
