Grande West Unveils New Medium-Duty Multi-Purpose Transit Vehicle
Grande West Transportation has announced an extension to its product line.
In addition to offering tours of the recently operational College Park Assembly Facility Grande West unveiled an expansion to its current Vicinity product line. The Company offered attendees a sneak peak at the newly designed transit vehicle. The high-quality, cost competitive vehicle will be offered from 22- to 28-foot lengths, designed for use in community service, airports, campuses, hotel shuttles, etc. This new high capacity vehicle was designed and built following the same quality standards used in its heavy-duty mid-size Vicinity buses.
Grande West showed an “operational mock up” of the new 27.5’ concept design.
Grande West believes that this monocoque body, rear-engine, low floor medium-duty transit vehicle will be a game changer. The 27.5-foot vehicle can accommodate up to 27 seated passengers and standees with multiple wheelchair positions. Designed with a 1:6 ramp slope, it is fully accessible for all passengers in need of extra assistance and wheelchair accessibility. This unique transit vehicle, powered by a GM gas engine and Allison transmission, will offer the same serviceability, maintainability and reliability typically found in transit vehicles with similar powertrains.
Grande West believes that this new category of “Crossover” vehicles will provide a superior option to current ‘cutaway’ offerings available to the transit market today.
Final engineering of the new vehicle will follow by taking into consideration industry expert feedback.
