Show Public Transit Some Love on Valentine’s Day & Ride COTA
On Wed., Feb. 14, the Central Ohio Transit Authority is joining the Ohio Public Transit Association and transit agencies across the state to recognize Ohio Loves Transit Day, an initiative that celebrates how public transit helps move Ohio forward.
Show public transit some love and ride COTA on Valentine’s Day. Riders can share journey and how public transportation moves you forward on social media. Tag COTA and use the hashtag #OhioLovesTransit.
Every day, Ohio’s 61 transit systems provide a vital link to hundreds of thousands of people, with 60,000 trips alone occurring in central Ohio daily. COTA trips provide access for people with disabilities, cost-effective transportation for low income riders, and help commuters get to work, students to school and patients to see their doctor.
State Rep. David Leland (D-Columbus) plans to ride COTA to a meeting on Ohio Loves Transit Day. He stated, “When we help people get to and from work or keep an appointment at the doctor’s office, it strengthens our community. Ohio loves transit because we know strong public transportation means more opportunity and a higher quality of life for people across our state. Thanks to COTA for not only believing in this, but making it happen — every single day!”
“A strong, accessible public transportation system is integral to equitable growth in Columbus,” said Shannon Hardin, president – Columbus City Council. “COTA is a tremendous partner, and I look forward to working alongside them to connect our residents to jobs, education and healthcare.”
Columbus City Councilmember Emmanuel Remy sponsored a resolution in honor of Ohio Loves Transit Day that was presented at the City Council Meeting on Feb. 12.
“COTA service is critical to getting people to their jobs throughout Franklin County, especially to growing job centers outside I-270,” said Craig Treneff, mayor of Westerville and COTA Board of Trustees member. “Without COTA, our county would not be experiencing the phenomenal economic growth that we are. That’s why so many people love COTA!”
