The Capital Area Tranportation Authority hosted the 5th annual Come Clean Duathlon Sunday, Sept. 9, to raise awareness about the benefits of clean commuting to improve air quality. This family-friendly run-bike-run event returned to Lake Lansing Park South in Haslett, Michigan.

“It’s going to be a blast,” said CATA CEO Bradley T. Funkhouser, who registered for the race this year. “We have an important message to share about how our community’s commuting behaviors impact the quality of the air we breathe. Everyone will have so much fun, they won’t even realize that our race improves their clean-commuting IQ. They’ll be exposed to our message throughout the day and all along the course, so our racers, sponsors, volunteers and spectators are sure to be the smartest clean commuters in the region.”

In addition to bus service, CATA Clean Commute Options offers carpooling, vanpooling and biking options through a free, online ride-matching service.

“Our duathlon offers a scenic course of nearly 17 miles,” said Clean Commute Options Specialist Zachary Forbush, who also serves as race coordinator. “We’ll have medals for all finishers, trophies from a local scrap-metal artist, cash prizes for top overall and masters finishers, and a digital finish-line photo with a Lansing State Journal cover for the top three male and female finishers in each age bracket. Local sponsors have generously donated food, water, race photos, bike-support, emergency-response, massage and chiropractic services; and we have the area’s most dedicated volunteers – all whose goal is to make our racers’ experience second to none.”
