Ciro Aguirre will become San Joaquin Regional Transit District’s (RTD) chief operating officer (COO) after serving as interim for nearly three months. Aguirre will oversee the transportation, service development, mobility, maintenance, facilities, security and other assigned departments.
Aguirre began his transit career in 1980 as a mechanic II with Santa Clara County Transit, now called Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. He was promoted to maintenance supervisor and then to maintenance superintendent where he oversaw three major overhaul and repair divisions for the county.
Aguirre joined Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (Santa Cruz METRO) in 2016 as an operations manager before being promoted to COO where he assumed responsibility for operations, paratransit, fleet maintenance, facilities, customer service and security.
“RTD is fortunate to attract such a talented transit professional with over 40 years of transit experience,” said RTD CEO Alex Clifford. “Ciro’s vast knowledge, experience and dedication makes him an ideal person to lead our operations team. He will play an integral role in transforming how RTD delivers transportation service as we continue to build back ridership.”
Aguirre holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Psychology from San Jose State University.
