Init Sponsors Professorship at University of Karlsruhe in Germany
The Faculty of Information Management and Media offers a W3 professorship of public transportation endowed by Init.
With about 7,500 students Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in Baden-Wuerttemberg with a focus on applied research as well as teaching. The university has six faculties: Faculty of Architecture & Construction Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science & Business Information Systems, Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, Faculty of Information Management and Media, Faculty of Management Science & Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering & Mechatronics.
The start date is September 1, 2013. The professorship encompasses teaching and applied research in public transportation. The main focus, apart from planning local public transport, will be on running and financing local public transport as well as applying telematic systems in this field.
The professorship presents one of the core competences in the degree program Transportation Management thus offering a unique profile. Furthermore the candidate is expected to provide innovative impulses in teaching and applied research. The successful candidate shows commitment and competence in creating specializations in research and development in order to make the profile of the masters’ degree programs even more appealing. The person sought knows how to let our students benefit from her/his competence gained in research activities as well as in practice. Her/his teaching and research is marked by her/his knowledge, abilities and example.
The Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences receives more third-party funds than the majority of universities of applied sciences in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Therefore expanding applied research is an acknowledged goal of the university. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in applied research projects and raise third-party funds. Furthermore she/he is expected to actively participate in the knowledge transfer between university and industry. She/he is also expected to be willing to fund or head a specific institution.
The ability to hold lectures in English is also expected. Apart from teaching, continuing education, research and development professors are also expected to participate in the self-administration of the university and the faculty.
According to §37 of the Baden-Wuerttemberg State Salary Law in accordance with by-law W
(Appendix 4) the professorship is grouped as W3. In addition, professors are evaluated at regular
intervals and receive a perfomance bonus if they meet certain criteria.
According to § 47 of the Baden-Wuerttemberg State University Law (LHG) applicants for a
professorship must meet the following criteria:
- University degree in a subject relevant to the courses to be taught,
- Teaching abilities as well as the special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by a doctorate
- At least five years relevant working experience after finishing university, at least two years of which must have been gained outside the higher education sector.
Civil service status will be granted in accordance with LHG §§ 49, 50. If this is the first professorship for the successful candidate, she/he will be employed as a civil servant on probation. A fixed-term contract as employee is also possible. Having proven her/his aptitude, the candidate will be granted a tenure.
