Capital Metro Vice Chair Beverly Silas Named Member of the APTA Executive Committee

Capital Metro board member and Vice Chair Beverly Silas has been named a member at-large of the executive committee of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) for a three-year term. Silas has been a member of Capital Metro’s board of directors since 2010.
The 16-member APTA executive committee is elected by the organization’s members and is charged with acting on behalf of the board of directors when the full board is not in session.
Silas is the president and chief executive officer of Beverly Silas & Associates, a privately owned public involvement-public affairs consulting firm based in Austin. Her firm specializes in public outreach activities for transportation, land development and planning projects. She had previously served as director of external affairs for AT&T for 31 years before retiring in 2000.
A former member of APTA’s board of directors, Silas has also been a board member for the Downtown Austin Alliance and Austin Community College.
“Beverly Silas has been an indispensable source of advice and counsel in her years serving Capital Metro,” said Capital Metro President/CEO Linda Watson. “Her experience and knowledge are sure to be beneficial to APTA, as well.”
Beverly Silas has a bachelor’s degree in public management from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin and a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
