Following the resignation of General Manager Andrew Johnson, the Connect Transit Board of Trustees has selected Isaac Thorne as the agency’s interim general manager.
The Board will vote on his appointment at its March 21 meeting and, if approved, he will serve until a permanent leader is selected.
Thorne has been with Connect Transit since 2007 and currently serves as chief operating officer. He started his career at Connect as a member of transportation operations team and rose to take on supervisory roles in operations before moving to the procurement team, becoming procurement director in 2011. In 2015 he took over the Transportation Department on an interim basis before being named to the newly formed position of Chief operating officer later that year.
"Andrew has assembled and helped to train a top notch, effective team. The Trustees agree that the best course is to draw interim leadership from the excellent team already in place. We are confident that Isaac will be a strong leader in this transition and expect he will be a candidate for the permanent position," said Acting Board Chair Mike McCurdy.
"I appreciate the confidence the Board has in my abilities and am grateful for the opportunity to lead this talented Connect Transit team after Andrew’s departure," said Thorne. “Connect Transit is recognized as one of the best transit systems in North America and our team is committed to always maintaining that best in the industry transit service in Bloomington-Normal.
