The Greater Dayton RTA is pleased to announce the promotion of Tim Harrington to the position of management information systems (MIS) manager.

Harrington has served as the IT project manager for RTA’s MIS department for more than a year. Prior to his recruitment to Dayton, he spent 13 years as the director of the information technology department for the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority in Cincinnati.

In his new role, Harrington will lead the team that keeps the technological aspects of RTA operations of rolling. More than seven different computer programs work together aboard an RTA bus in order to feed data back to operators.

“We provide the tools that everybody else uses to get their jobs done,” Harrington said.

"This promotion is part of succession planning the RTA put in place over a year ago when then-manager Hank Trimble announced plans to retire in 2017," said RTA Finance Director Mary Stanforth.

“From day one at Greater Dayton RTA, Tim hit the ground running. We are very fortunate to have hired an experienced transit professional and his transition has been seamless over the past year,“ Stanforth said.

Before beginning his work in public transportation, Harrington spent more than 20 years in the IT industry working for private companies in Dayton and Cincinnati. In the transit industry, working with the computer systems that keep bus operations functioning at least 22 hours a day, 365 days a year is challenging but rewarding, Harrington said.

“Hopefully the systems we in IT put in place can make other’s jobs easier and more successful,” he said.

The work environment at RTA, the family-friendly atmosphere and the hardworking mentality of the agency’s employees are reasons Harrington said he likes working for the organization. He also values the service RTA provides to its customers every day.

Over the next few months Harrington will continue transitioning into his new role as former manager Trimble remains with the organization as deputy manager until his retirement later this year.
