The Amazon Fulfillment Center in Breinigsville, one of the Lehigh Valley’s largest employers, will be awarded the inaugural Lehigh Valley Transit Partner Award from Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority at Tuesday’s (July 11) Annual Meeting. The announcement was made by Owen P. O’Neil, LANTA executive director.
“In establishing this award LANTA wants to recognize those companies, institutions and individuals who make major efforts to facilitate and promote the use of public transit in the Lehigh Valley,” O’Neil said. “We are proud to recognize Amazon for their partnership in making public transportation a dependable part of the work experience for so many of their employees,” he added.
“Since 2011, Amazon.com and LANTA developed a revenue guarantee agreement under which LANTA has added weekend trips to the route serving Amazon's Breinigsville facility. This allows riders to get to and from any Amazon work shift from the Allentown Transportation Center,” said Cordelia Miller, chair of the LANTA Board of Directors. The agreement covers LANTA's net cost for operating the added trips. Accepting the award for Amazon will be Eli Pabon, general manager and Mary Singer, human resource manager.
LANTA, celebrating its Forty-fifth Anniversary, will hold its Annual Meeting Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. the Grand Eastonian Hotel, followed with the awards ceremony. In addition to the Lehigh Valley Transit Partner Award LANTA will recognize several recent retirees as well as long-time board member Tony Swartz.
