John Kennedy’s 46-year involvement in the transportation industry has influenced how traffic operations function today and his forward-thinking, creative vision shows us what those traffic operations could look like tomorrow. His remarkable contributions to the transportation engineering profession and to the Institute for Transportation Engineers (ITE) were recently celebrated at the 2017 ITE Annual Meeting where Kennedy received the Burton W. Marsh Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes an individual who has “contributed to the advancement of ITE over a period of years in an outstanding fashion.”

Kennedy has dedicated his career to improving mobility and communities, focusing on traffic operations on large-scale, high-profile projects, including the award-winning Central Artery/Tunnel (Big Dig) in Boston — one of the nation’s most complex transportation and civil works projects. A steward of our Generational Company, John provides guidance to our next generation of leaders as VHB continues to raise the bar in delivering creative, innovative solutions for our clients.
