rabbittransit announced the formation of two partnerships with area organizations to help raise awareness for Tobacco Awareness Month in November.

On November 3, rabbittransit will host the Wok Runner Food Truck at its administrative offices at 415 N. Zarfoss Drive in York from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fifteen percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Lung Association (ALA) in Pennsylvania. Representatives from the Lung Association will be on site to offer information about tobacco cessation programs and “Saved By The Scan,” a first-of-its-kind campaign between the Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative and the Ad Council that aims to raise awareness of the benefits of lung cancer early detection through lung cancer screening. Employees from surrounding businesses and members of the public are invited to attend.

“The Lung Association is pleased to partner with rabbittransit to get the word out about Saved By The Scan. The toll lung cancer takes on our families, friends and neighbors in Pennsylvania and across the nation is truly devastating,” said Deborah P. Brown, executive vice president, American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic. “With the availability of lung cancer screening, we have the opportunity to find the disease earlier and save lives. However, to make this lifesaving opportunity a reality, we must do more to raise awareness of both lung cancer and screening.”

On November 16, rabbittransit will partner with WellSpan Health for The Great American Smokeout. Every year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in this event by quitting smoking or going tobacco free for the day. In honor of this practice, “Four for your Fare” will launch as rabbittransit riders can offer four cigarettes in exchange for their bus fare.

“We are happy to leverage public spaces to better public health,” explained rabbittransit Executive Director, Richard Farr. “Healthcare organizations are some of our main partners and we want to assist them where we can.”

“WellSpan is excited to partner with rabbittransit to offer this innovative program,” said Kevin Alvarnaz, WellSpan director of community health and wellness. “Giving up tobacco use is difficult and often takes many attempts to be successful. Handing over one’s cigarettes may be the first step in the quit process. Through our tobacco cessation services, WellSpan is able to support the other steps necessary to help tobacco users live a tobacco-free life.”
