Joe Pizzurro Named HNTB Transit and Rail Practice Leader for New York and New Jersey
Joseph Pizzurro, PE, has been named HNTB’s transit and rail practice leader, a newly created position for the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. Based in the firm’s Empire State Building office, Pizzurro’s role includes managing and growing HNTB’s transit and rail operations in the region.
“A proven leader, Joe has earned the trust of transit agencies throughout New York and New Jersey, and he is recognized for his ability to design and implement creative solutions to highly complex transit and rail challenges,” said Phil Brake, PE, HNTB’s Northeast Division president.
A senior vice president at HNTB with more than 22 years of industry experience, Pizzurro most recently served as sales officer for HNTB’s Northeast Division, achieving record sales in 2017. Since joining HNTB in 2011, he has held a series of increasingly responsible roles including New York sales officer, director of rail and senior project manager for the rail department.
Pizzurro is a graduate of the State University of New York, Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, the Metropolitan Railway Club and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a professional engineer in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
HNTB plays an integral role in many of the region’s most important transit and rail infrastructure programs, including construction manager for the renewal and rehabilitation of multiple subway station facilities for New York City Transit; design engineer for Long Island Rail Road Jamaica Phase II capacity improvement program; design engineer of the Long Island Rail Road’s Mid Suffolk Yard expansion in Ronkonkoma, New York; and program manager for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s PATH extension to Newark International Airport, among others.
