The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission announced the appointment of two new alternates to the Board of Commissioners, which oversees all aspects of the OmniRide express and local bus services. As two of the six alternates representing Prince William County, Darrell “D.J.” Jordan Jr. and Kalai Kandasamy will participate in monthly Commission meetings and vote when regular members are absent. As alternates, they also may serve on PRTC committees.

“Both of these gentlemen are daily commuters with first-hand experience in problem-solving and using public transportation. I’m sure their experiences and backgrounds will provide the Board with valuable insight as we look for ways to improve mobility for all area residents,” said PRTC Board Chair Ruth Anderson.

Jordan lives in Woodbridge and works as a congressional aide in the United States Senate. He commutes daily to Washington, D.C., usually via OmniRide express bus or a slug carpool.

“My goal as a member of the PRTC Board is to reduce commute times and increase commuter options so that Prince William residents spend less time in traffic and more time at their jobs or with their families,” Jordan said.

He aims to achieve that goal by focusing on affordable transportation options for low-income residents and relieving traffic congestion on key routes such as I-95, Minnieville Rd, and Route 28.

Kandasamy has lived in Woodbridge for more than 15 years and is currently an enterprise architect and consultant for the Department of Defense. He also has more than two decades of experience in Information Technology, data analysis, and cybersecurity.

Through the years, Kandasamy has commuted to Washington DC using various modes of transportation including OmniRide express buses, Virginia Railway Express, carpooling and slugging. With his experience in application development, he created the Sluglines.com website as well as a mobile app for slugging.
