For the sixth consecutive year, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its FY2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its FY2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the HART Finance Team.

HART's 2017 CAFR was rated "proficient" in 17 categories, qualifying our regional financial report to be an example for others throughout the U.S. To be eligible for the award, a government unit must meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious award for the sixth consecutive year," said HART Interim CEO Jeff Seward. "It speaks to our commitment to providing financials that meet the highest standards of communication and accountability to the public.

The agency's CAFR for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2017, was reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the Special Review Committee, to ensure it met the program's high standards. These include going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and preparing comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure to communicate its financial story.

"We are very proud to be the recipient of this distinguished award. Congratulations to the HART Finance Team for their outstanding hard work," remarked HART Chief Administrative Officer and Interim Chief of Staff Kenyatta Lee. "The agency as a whole gets better and stronger each year, and this award is a direct reflection of the excellence of the HART leadership team.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association servicing the needs of more than 17,500 government finance professionals and has previously awarded HART the Certificate of Distinguished Budget Presentation in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
