DART extends meal delivery to DISD students through Aug. 27
Students will continue to receive weekly meals from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) through August as the Dallas school district works to safely reopen.
Each Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a DART bus will deliver 1,500 meals, enough for 100 families per bus, 15 meals per student, for a total of 4,500 weekly meals distributed by Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and DART volunteers.
Families can safely drive through three different sites as the goods are placed in the trunk of their vehicle:
- Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center, 5150 Mark Trail Way, Dallas, TX 75232
- Janie Turner Recreation Center, 6424 Elam Rd, Dallas, TX 75217
- Highland Hills Branch Library, 6200 Bonnie View Rd, Dallas, TX 75241
Since March, DART has partnered with DISD, Garland ISD and Richardson ISD to deliver meals to students; the city of Dallas to distribute care packages to seniors; with DART paratransit customers to deliver food and medicine; with Catholic Charities to deliver meals to Brady Center seniors; and with the Richardson Network of Community Missionaries to transport prepackaged meals to families in need.
