Schank has led L.A. Metro’s Office of Extraordinary Innovation and was the agency’s first chief innovation officer.

Joshua Schank, Ph.D., will join InfraStrategies in February 2022 as a managing principal in the firm’s southern California office. Schank most recently served as the first chief innovation officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro).

Schank is also assuming a position as a senior fellow at the Institute for Transportation Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he will teach and serve as a resource for the institute and its faculty and students.

“I look forward to using the lessons we’ve learned about public-private partnerships, innovation and strategic policy at Metro to help others in the transportation industry,” Schank said. “The creativity and professionalism represented by the InfraStrategies team provides a unique and flexible base to deliver strategic advisory services to public authorities and private organizations seeking to improve mobility utilizing technology and innovation.”

Schank began his career at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York before moving on to become transportation policy advisor to U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). He had a distinguished career in Washington, D.C., leading the National Transportation Policy Project at the Bipartisan Policy Center, and then becoming the president and CEO of the Eno Center for Transportation.

Schank then relocated to Los Angeles to head the newly created Office of Extraordinary Innovation at L.A. Metro, where he developed and implemented many new transformative initiatives for the agency and the industry including a P3-based Predevelopment Agreement (PDA) process for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor, Metro’s new on demand Microtransit service and the agency’s Vision 2028 Strategic Plan.

“My colleagues and I are pleased to welcome a person with Joshua’s stature, professional achievements and experience in the industry as a partner in the firm,” InfraStrategies Managing Partner Mike Schneider said. “He will add immeasurably to InfraStrategies’ capabilities and thought leadership in the transportation and infrastructure space through his unique and specialized experience in policy, strategy, program management and project development.”
