Alexis Majied has joined Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) as the new chief of communications.
Majied, who recently served as marketing director for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s commercial line of business, began her new job on June 6.
Majied will serve as the organization’s chief communications strategist and primary spokesperson. She is responsible for overseeing public relations, marketing, government affairs, public outreach, community relations, internal communications and business development activities, departments that previously were separate and under different leadership.
"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the Hampton Roads Transit team," Majied said. "This is an exciting time to return, as there are many projects in the works that will give commuters even more options for getting around Hampton Roads.”
Majied has more than 15 years of experience in marketing and communications. Her career started in the promotions department at WAVY-TV 10 (NBC), followed by her first stint at HRT, where she was instrumental in developing communications strategies for launching The Tide light rail and Metro Area Express (MAX) services.
A member of the Hampton Roads chapters of Women in Transit and the Public Relations Society of America, Majied is also a Girl Scout troop leader and serves on the board of directors for Girls on the Run Hampton Roads.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Norfolk State University and a Master of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University.
