Information Specialists begin to staff The Ride's Ypsilanti Transit Center
Starting Aug. 1, the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) Ypsilanti Transit Center will begin having Information Specialists staff the facility to sell tokens and passes, along with providing route information support to the community. This is the first time in the agency’s history to have Information Specialists staff the Ypsilanti Transit Center.
“We’re thrilled to bring staff on site to the Ypsilanti Transit Center to support our riders in the Ypsilanti area,” said Matt Carpenter, CEO at TheRide. “This service will bring more equity to our service area and provide a valuable resource to those that visit this transit center.”
The move to bring staff to the Ypsilanti Transit Center comes from the community’s approval of TheRide’s millage in August 2022. While millage funds do not arrive until 2024, TheRide was able to bring the Information specialists to the transit center early.
“On behalf of TheRide’s Board of Directors, I want to thank the voters for their support in 2022 and all of the employees who have worked diligently to make this happen,” said Jesse Miller, city of Ypsilanti appointee to TheRide Board of Directors and board secretary. “It shows tremendous dedication to bring this service to the area early.”
Information Specialists will be staffing the Information Window at the Ypsilanti Transit Center during the following times:
- Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Staff will sell tokens and passes to customers. Any Fare Deal, GoldRide or A-Ride cards will continue to be managed through the main office
TheRide is continuing to work on the planning and design of the Ypsilanti Transit Center expansion which is scheduled to begin in late 2023 and go through 2025. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 and last at least one year.
