The major safety updates will make transit systems safer for transit workers and passengers across the U.S. while providing workers more input in safety-making decisions through enhanced safety committees.

The Gold Standard Award is the highest level of recognition TSA can give to a transit agency for achieving top scores on the Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement, which consists of 17 security action items.
WMATA has taken steps since 2023 to improve safety and security throughout its transit system.
The policy supports SamTrans commitment to improving the safety conditions of all transit worker staff, deter passengers from engaging in disruptive and dangerous behavior and minimize the risk of harassment against bus operators and other onboard passengers.
The city will soon begin piloting technologies designed to detect firearms carried by travelers on the subway system, as well as begin to hire clinicians to support the expansion of the Subway Co-Response Outreach Teams.
The FHWA-funded grants will be awarded to Operation Lifesaver organizations in California, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
The focus of the AI initiative is to significantly enhance safety, while reducing accidents at light-rail grade crossings and on rights-of-way.
Carrillo’s promotion comes after she was the security manager during the past three years.
