Bombardier to Supply 300 New Subway Cars for NY
Bombardier Transportation has signed a contract for 300 subway cars with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to be delivered to New York City Transit (NYCT). The order is valued at approximately $599 million.

FRA Approves First Integrated Use of Stadler GTW Rail Vehicle for DCTA
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced approval of Denton County Transportation Authority’s (DCTA) request to operate the Stadler GTW concurrent with traditional, compliant equipment. This means that for the first time ever; light-weight/fuel efficient, eco-friendly low-floor vehicles will be permitted to operate in rail corridors concurrently with traditionally compliant vehicles. The waiver will expand commuter rail options for transportation authorities across the United States.
New Flyer Unveils First All-Electric Transit Bus Prototype
Flyer Industries Inc. announced the unveiling of its prototype all-electric 40-foot Xcelsior heavy-duty transit bus. The bus is equipped with an electric drive and is modified to carry advanced lithium ion batteries from MHI that are charged from the city’s electrical grid instead of by a conventional diesel engine.
“New Flyer has been manufacturing buses for over 80 years and this is just another example of where we lead the bus industry in innovation,” said New Flyer’s President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Soubry. “From the introduction of low-floor buses, to articulated buses, to the industry’s first programmable logic control systems, New Flyer has continually set the pace.”
Hyrdrogen Fuel Cell Technology Comes to the Midwest
The Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) unveiled its new hydrogen fuel cell bus and opened their alternative fuel facility. The MTA is the first transportation agency in the Midwest with a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
“Hydrogen as an alternative fuel for the public transit industry is environmentally friendly, reduces the carbon footprint and is technically feasible for a sustainable future,” said Ed Benning, MTA general manager.
“With the introduction of a bus powered by a PureMotion fuel cell system, MTA is leading by example and reaping the benefits of superior efficiency, increased reliability and reduced emissions for environmentally responsible operations,” said Joe Triompo, vice president and general manager, UTC Power.
