Hurontario light-rail project’s Cooksville section sees huge delivery of rail

Jan. 13, 2022
Metrolinx received delivery of 9,000 meters of rail line Jan. 11.

The team behind the Hurontario (HuLRT) light-rail project is going to great lengths lately to get the system on track.

In this case, about nine kilometers (5.6 miles) more, thanks to the delivery of a large amount of rail to the Cooksville ‘laydown’ or staging area.

Each of the 360 pieces measure 25 meters (approximately 82 feet) long, and here’s a bit of trivia – the grooved rail offers another layer of protection against derailing. It’s all about the physics of how the light-rail vehicles will travel on the line.

The delivery is happening now and will continue to pile up until later in the month.
