Construction to begin at Caltrain’s Bayshore Station for overpass rehabilitation

Caltrain will begin Sept. 19 construction on the Bayshore Station Overpass Rehabilitation Project.  

This will result in the partial closure of platforms that will affect how riders board and disembark from the train. The project will remove and replace the coating on the station’s pedestrian bridge and stairwells to ensure the overpass remains safe and fully functional for years to come. 

The overpass will remain open during construction. Half of the bridge will be under construction at a time to allow riders to pass through with minimal impacts. Clear signage will be posted to help with the detour through the stairs, elevator and bridge. Single tracking may occur due to the project, so riders are advised to follow Caltrain Alerts for the most-up to-date information. Riders disembarking at Bayshore Station must do so from the three northernmost cars on the train. Cyclists traveling to Bayshore Station must be on the northernmost bike car. 

Construction will include sandblasting, washing and painting the station to remove and replace the coating on the station’s pedestrian bridge and stairwells. Construction is expected to take place between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as approximately three weeks of night work that will go from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Work activities include the use of a forklift, diesel generators for light towers, vehicle back-up alarms and hand-powered tools used to install the anchors for the scaffolding.  

Caltrain says every effort will be made to minimize the noise as much as possible. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The $6.87 million project is made possible through a combination of state and San Francisco Prop K funds.
