NJ Transit restores light-rail service at two HBLR stations in Jersey City
Service is resuming April 25 at two of New Jersey Transit’s (NJ Transit) Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) stations on the West Side Avenue Branch following the completion of required utility work by the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA).
The MLK Dr. and Garfield Ave. stations will reopen for scheduled light-rail service, while West Side Avenue station will maintain shuttle bus service to allow for continued early-action construction work on the Rt. 440 extension.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience while this necessary utility work was completed by the JCMUA,” said NJ Transit President/CEO Kevin Corbett. “We look forward to reopening the West Side Avenue Station just as soon as the critical early-action construction work is completed on the Rt. 440 extension project. With proper project planning, we were able to avoid a similar impact to customers in the future by performing the early Rt. 440 construction work while the JCMUA completed their required utility work.”
Shuttle buses will continue to provide service between West Side Avenue station and MLK Dr. station. Buses will depart West Side Avenue station every day at 20-minute intervals from 5:25 a.m. to 11:25 p.m. An additional early morning bus will also run at 12:25 a.m. Shuttle-bus trips from MLK Dr. to West Side Avenue station will depart after the train arrives at MLK Dr. station.
