MDOT MTA announces Light RailLink track maintenance to begin May 16 between North Avenue and Camden Yard stops
Planned Light RailLink track maintenance will begin May 16, with the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) reconstructing three interlockings and replacing more than ,000 track feet along 10 curves between the North Avenue and Camden Yard stops.
The planned maintenance work is scheduled to continue through Sept. 21.
"This maintenance work is part of MDOT MTA's investment in keeping our system in a state of good repair," said MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. "We ask for our riders’ patience as we conduct this work, which will help us maintain the integrity of our system and continue to run safe and reliable service."
As employers continue to support telework options and customers limit their use of transit, MDOT MTA ridership on Light Rail remains down nearly 65 percent of pre-pandemic levels. This critical track work is being completed now to minimize impact to riders. To ensure continuity of service, Light RailLink trains will proceed via single track between the Falls Road and Camden stops. A free bus bridge will also provide supplemental service between the affected stops to lessen rider delays.
MDOT MTA says it will continue to keep riders informed through signage at each stop, platform announcements, updates via social media and the MDOT MTA website, and e-alert notification system. Passengers can also call the Transit Information Contact Center.
The North Avenue to Camden Yards track work is the first of two state of good repair projects scheduled for 2021. The second track maintenance project, from Camden to Glen Burnie/BWI, will begin in the fall.
