Planned Light-Rail Link track maintenance will begin April 17 along the southern portion of the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration’s (MDOT MTA) light-rail system.

This planned track maintenance work is part of MDOT MTA’s investment to keep the light-rail system in a state of good repair and is scheduled to continue through May 15. A free bus bridge will provide service between affected Light Rail stops.

“MDOT MTA understands the critical role that transit plays for our riders in the region,” said MTA Administrator Holly Arnold. “Completing this track work will help maintain the high quality of our system and enable us to continue to serve our riders with safe and reliable service.”

The planned maintenance includes the replacement of nearly 10,100 track feet of rail, including eight curves, between the Hamburg, Glen Burnie and BWI light-rail stops. The project will also replace 540 timber ties at the Patapsco River Bridge and 1,500 feet of overhead catenary wire. Similar track work was completed on the northern portion of the system in spring 2021.

MDOT MTA will continue to keep riders informed through signage at each stop, platform announcements, updates via social media and the MDOT MTA website and e-alert notification system. Transit Ambassadors will be at the affected light rail stops to assist riders. Passengers can also call the Transit Information Contact Center.
