In what police believe was a suicide, a pedestrian was killed Saturday afternoon when a northbound Amtrak train struck him at Grant Avenue near the Torresdale train station, police said.
The victim, identified only as a white male, was hit at 1:46 p.m. Police said a paramedic pronounced the man dead at the scene at 1:52 p.m.
No other information about the victim or the accident had been released as of Saturday evening.
No crew members or passengers were injured on the Keystone Service route from Philadelphia to New York, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said.
The approximately 195 passengers on that train, No. 666, were transferred to Northeast Regional train No. 88.
Two of the four tracks in that area were shut down after the accident, with train traffic allowed through at reduced speed on the other two, Leeds said.
All four tracks were open at normal speed by 5 p.m.
