    Germany: Deutsche Bahn Plans Up Rival Service to Virgin and East Coast Rails

    Deutsche Bahn, the state-owned rail giant in Germany intends to introduce a contender service to Virgin and East Coast rails on the key east and west coast itineraries, leading to reduction in fares.

    Deutsche Bahn, the state-owned rail giant in Germany intends to introduce a contender service to Virgin and East Coast rails on the key east and west coast itineraries, leading to reduction in fares.

    The Germans will make use of their unit Arriva to operate the new service. This has only come to pass following Deutsche Bahn's taking control of Grand Central, the privately-held train operator that operates a limited services from Yorkshire and the North-East to London.

    Arriva, which already holds CrossCountry, Arriva Trains Wales and Chiltern Rail, is expected to use its long distance specialization and marketing skills to encourage the service and compete against Virgin and East Coast Trains.
