MTA Celebrates 40 Years of Service by 'Giving Thanks' to Transit Patrons
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is marking the 40th anniversary of its establishment by the Maryland General Assembly in 1971 with a November-long commemoration of service to transit patrons. A series of pre-Thanksgiving celebrations will be held at various Metro Subway and MARC Train stations, and Light Rail stops in and around Baltimore, with entertainment, giveaways and other expressions of thanks for the opportunity to serve the agency's transit patrons.
MTA Administrator Ralign T. Wells said,"There is no better way for our agency to celebrate this milestone than by giving back to our customers, and also encouraging them to be thoughtful of others in need. We are proud of our record of service over the past 40 years and the opportunity to celebrate by partnering with the Maryland Food Bank during the month of November."
The MTA is using these events in partnership with the Maryland Food Bank to collect food and other donations for families in Maryland who are in need during this holiday season. All transit patrons are invited to participate and contribute in whatever way they can.
Since it was first formed forty years ago, the MTA has transformed the way Maryland residents travel to work, school, shopping and recreational destinations. Over the decades, numerous studies confirm that public transportation plays a key role in reducing traffic congestion and pollution, serving the business community by increasing the mobility of Maryland's workforce, and serving those who would otherwise have no way to get around.
The planned schedule of events includes:
- Friday, November 4: Charles Center Metro Subway Station, 11:00 a.m. and the Mondawmin Transit Center at 5:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 9: Camden Yards Transit Center, 8:00 a.m.
- Wednesday, November 16: Johns Hopkins Metro Subway Station 8:00 a.m. and the Cromwell Station/Glen Burnie Light Rail Stop at 5:00 p.m.
