One year ago, the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) opened the A-train, its 21-mile commuter rail system. Since opening, the A-train has carried 386,230 passengers.
On Saturday, June 16, 2012, DCTA celebrated another milestone with the integration of some of its new Stadler GTW vehicles. DCTA purchased 11 diesel-electric GTW 2/6 articulated rail vehicles from Stadler. The vehicles offer level boarding and incorporate enhanced passenger information systems and video surveillance.
The spacious interior has room for wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles. There are 104 seats and standing room for 96 persons in every vehicle along with large windows and comfortable seating. DCTA plans to integrate additional vehicles into service over the next few months with a full transition by September.
