Federal-Mogul to Reveal Sintered Brake Pad Range at InnoTrans 2012
Federal-Mogul Corp. will showcase its new Ferodo sintered brake pad range at the 2012 InnoTrans exhibition September 18-21 in Berlin. The Ferodo sintered brake pads will be displayed on the Federal-Mogul stand (Stand 221, Hall 1.2a) along with the latest products from the company’s other brands, including Bentley-Harris, National and DEVA.
“Trains are carrying heavier loads, travelling faster and further between service intervals, increasing the need for sintered friction materials for brakes,” said Dr. Tim Hodges, Federal-Mogul’s chief engineer (Railways). “Federal-Mogul’s extensive knowledge and experience of friction materials enables it to produce the sintered brake products that the rail industry is demanding. These advanced materials are developed in-house using the dynamometer test facilities at our friction technical centre in Chapel-en-le-Frith, UK and will be produced at one of Federal-Mogul’s specialist sintering plants.”
The company will display two friction materials that are designed for medium duty applications. FER6251 is a friction material that is best suited to applications up to 200km/h, such as passenger coach vehicles and locomotives; the other material, FER6202, is suitable for high speed trains up to 300km/h. UIC certifications will be sought for both materials.
Federal-Mogul will also provide an update on the German-government-sponsored LäGiv project. The project’s aim is to reduce the noise produced by freight traffic through the use of innovative composite brake blocks. The European Union is encouraging the rail industry to reduce average lineside noise by 2020. Federal-Mogul has been using its friction expertise from the rail and commercial vehicle industries to produce suitable friction materials.
The company’s other brands will be displaying the latest range of rail components. Bentley Harris will display a comprehensive line of high quality sleeving and shielding solutions. Wheel end components will be showcased by National and Deva will bring its latest world-class bearing technology.
