Ed Reiskin, director of transportation of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), issued the following statement Jan. 30 congratulating Tom Nolan, chairman of the SFMTA Board of Directors, on the announcement of his election as chairman of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB), which owns and operates Caltrain. The vote to elect Nolan as board chair was unanimous.
“Chairman Nolan has a unique perspective on the Bay Area’s transit and transportation industry. He brings his experience as the leader of a multi-modal body that oversees the entire breadth of San Francisco’s sustainable transportation choices, such as bicycling, pedestrian travel, taxis and transit. This familiarity will serve Caltrain riders well, as we all work towards improving our regional transportation network. At the SFMTA, he has put the needs of those who live, work and visit San Francisco at the forefront. I know that as he takes on this additional leadership role, the Bay Area will be well served by having his dedication, experience, and perspective at the helm of the JPB.”
Nolan is the SFMTA Board’s appointee to the JPB. Nolan was one of the founding board members of Caltrain, authorizing the purchase of the right of way in 1991. The board has nine members, with three representatives from each of the three counties through which the rail service operates – San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara.
