The RNL Transportation Market announces the elevation of Ken J. Anderson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, associate principal, to eastern region transit director, and Merlin Maley, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, to associate principal, and western region transit director.

Anderson has over 17 years of experience in the architectural field and leads RNL’s Washington, DC, office. As a project manager and project architect he has recently been tasked with directing all transportation work for the Eastern regions of the U.S. He has a wide variety of experience in project types including transportation, mixed-use commercial, urban design, civic and religious architecture. As an active member of both national and local organizations, he works to promote infill and redevelopment within cities and communities and his experience with both private and public sector projects gives him a unique perspective on the needs of both. Ken has been an APTA member since 2004. He currently sits on multiple committees, authoring white papers and guiding industry standards on transit design. Ken is committed to a multi-disciplinary approach to architecture and planning that creates flexible and functional designs for the end user. Notable projects in Ken’s portfolio include the Harrisonburg Administration & Maintenance Facility, Harrisonburg, Va., Raleigh Downtown Operations Facility, in Raleigh, N.C., Gracie’s Village Mixed Use Residential, Tempe, Ariz., and the LA Metro Division 13 Operations and Maintenance Facility, Los Angeles.
Merlin Maley, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C
Maley has 16 years of experience in the field of architecture, landscape design and green construction, serving as a project architect, project manager, designer and sustainability champion on a number of projects. For the past seven years, Merlin has focused predominantly on the transportation industry, working on numerous maintenance and operations facilities, multi-modal stations and facility master plans across the country. As a result of his experience and rapport with RNL’s transportation clients, Merlin has been promoted to Associate Principal and tasked with directing all transportation work for the Western half of the U.S. In 2011, his project for Transpo in South Bend, Ind., –the Emil “Lucky” Reznick Administration, Maintenance & Operations Facility – achieved LEED Platinum certification by the Green Building Certification Institute. This was the first maintenance and operations facility in the country to achieve LEED’s highest level of certification. Additionally, Merlin’s projects have won numerous design awards from the American Institute of Architects and other professional services within the AEC industry. Currently, Maley is leading the Utah Transit Authority Depot District Service Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, the START Bus Administration, Operations and Maintenance Facility, Jackson, Wyo., and the Greeley Evans Transit (GET) Transfer Center, Greeley, Colo.
